Narali Purnima is a traditional festival celebrated in coastal regions of India, primarily by the Marathi and Gujarati communities. It is observed on the full moon day of Shravan, which falls in August or September. Narali Purnima means the end of the monsoon season and is dedicated to the lord of the sea - Varuna, as a token of gratitude for weather conditions, and also at times, to solicit the protection from storms during this season. It was also the time fishers began to fish again after the monsoon and pray for safety at sea as well as for a good catch.
