In Kolkata, the country's first underwater metro train launched its commercial services on Friday, delighting hundreds of passengers on their inaugural journey. The Train Started from Howrah Maidan station on the East-West metro corridor at 7 am, while another train set off from Esplanade station simultaneously.

Blue lights illuminate the inner walls of the tunnels under the river to create the feeling of water surrounding the moving train.

The underwater metro extends 4.8 km from Howrah Maidan to Esplanade, passing beneath the Hooghly River to link Kolkata and Howrah. The tunnel section beneath the river spans 520 meters, and a train takes approximately 45 seconds to cross it.
