Architecture of Sri Mallikarjun Swamy Temple

The main Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy temple complex is quite extensive and impressive in its architecture. It consists of two main shrines dedicated to Lord Mallikarjuna and Bhramaramba Devi. Along with these, there are various halls, mandapams, and smaller shrines like Vriddha Mallikarjuna, Sahasra Lingeswara, Arthanariswara, Veerabhadra, and Uma Maheswara.

Inside the temple courtyard, there are nine temples known as Nava Brahma temples. Surrounding the temple complex is a grand stone wall with four main gates, called dwaras. The eastern gate, known as Maha Dwaram, serves as the main entrance.

Upon entering through the Maha Dwaram, visitors encounter a spacious mandapam with 42 pillars and porches extending towards the northern, eastern, and southern sides. At the center of this mandapam stands a large sculpture of Nandi, facing Lord Mallikarjuna. Adjacent to this is another mandapam called the Nandi Mandapa. To the west of the Nandi Mandapa is the Veeraiah Mandapam, believed to have been constructed in 1378 AD.
