Mahakaleshwar Temple Ujjain Bhashma Aarti
Every day at Mahakaleshwar Temple, there's a special event called Bhasma Aarti that a lot of people find exciting. It happens early in the morning, before the sun comes up. In this ceremony, they worship the idol of Lord Shiva using sacred ash from the ghats. The ash is carefully put on the lingam during the prayers.
What's unique about this Aarti is that it's only done at Mahakaleshwar Temple among all the Jyotirlinga temples. If you want to attend, you can buy tickets online, but you should apply a day before. The temple stops accepting applications at 12:30 PM, and they announce the list at 7:00 PM.
Mahakaleshwar Temple Ujjain Garbh Griha
The holiest part of the temple is the innermost sanctum called the garbhagriha. Inside this sacred space resides the main deity, Lord Shiva, in the form of a revered lingam. The garbhagriha is considered the most sanctified area of the temple, and only the temple priests are allowed entry. Devotees express their prayers and make offerings from outside the garbhagriha, respecting its sacred nature.
The opportunity to have darshan (viewing or presence) of the garbhagriha is available from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. and from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. every day. However, please note that during the Bhasma Aarti and other special rituals, this viewing is not accessible.
